Birth of our new monster!! Paxton's Birth Story!

So my due date was May 23rd, but since I have Gestational Diabetes, my doctor wanted to induce me early.  So we scheduled my induction for the 18th in the morning

The morning on the 18th, we arrived at the hospital a little before 7:30.  first to meet us were a family of geese!!  How cool was that!!!!

We were early, so Jared grabbed some food.  I was told only clear liquids after midnight, so I got an apple juice, and watched him eat yummy hash browns, ham, and other good stuff!!!   Once he was done, we went upstairs to get checked in.

This was such a nice experience!  They brought us to our room, and they had already gotten everything set up, including my birth plan and info on the board!  We even had a view of the helicopter!

So after getting dressed in the hospital gown, and settled in, my Nurse Chivon came in to finish getting me checked in.  She did a cervical exam, and just like I have been, I was dilated to 3 CM and 70% Effaced.  So my extra week of prodromal labor did nothing.  Pitocin was started by 8 in the morning, and it was time to roll!!!  Dr. Davis was to be in about an hour or so to break my water, so we just hung out, and watched the contraction monitor.  Contractions came every 4-5 mins or so, but were not painful.

At 8:52 Dr. Bierer came in.  Dr. Davis had to go to another hospital, and since he was there on rounds, my OB asked him to break my water.  With Lexi, I had my Epi when they broke it, so this was something really new!  And really gross!  It really does feel like a giant water balloon breaking inside of you.  This really triggered some contractions!  Within about 20 minutes, I called the Nurse and asked when I would be able to get the Epi because its starting to hurt!!!!  She said we can do it when I am ready, and it shouldn't take long for the anesthesiologist to come in since all C-Sections have already been done for the day.  A short while later, I asked for the epidural, so Chivon told me she would go get him.    Bad news.... He just went into an emergency C-Section.... so I need to wait!

I lasted almost an hour with horrible pitocin fueled contractions before I begged the nurse for SOMETHING to help me last until I can get the epidural.  She came back with some Fentanyl and pushed it into my IV at 9:55.  Luckily this kicked in really fast!  But it also made me really drowsy too, and since it was IV, she told me it will not last long.  I tried taking a little nap, but only got like 20 minutes.

Meds started wearing off about 45 minutes later, but thankfully Dr. Madlang came at about 10:45 and gave me my epidural.   I dont remember it hurting at all with Lexi, but it sure did with Paxton!!  When he stuck it in my back, I had a bad shocking pain shoot down my left leg that would hurt with every tiny movement he made.  It took about 5 minutes for him to get it placed, and it made my left leg go completely dead!  My right still went numb, but i still had feeling with it.  I could also still feel all my contractions, but just the pressure, and not the cramps and pain.  I was very satisfied by this, but I wish my legs had equal feeling.

12:40 Now that I was super relaxed, and pain free, Chivon came back in to check my cervix.  Now I was at 7 cm and 90% effaced but Paxton was still really high up, so I was moving along really well!!  I asked her to guess when Paxton will arrive, and she told me that she thinks at least a couple more hours, but she is really hoping she will be here for the birth, and she gets off at 3:30.  So we were all hoping he would be here by 3 PM.
At this time, and to help me progress more, she moved me to a more sitting position so gravity could help bring Paxton down more.

Since it still seemed it would be a while, I told Jared to go get some food, but be quick.  So he went downstairs to the cafe to eat some food.  Meanwhile Chivon came in and told me she wanted to go to lunch as well, and introduced me to a co-worker, and said she will look after me for the next half hour.  I was still in a sitting position, and I needed to help support myself with legs that I could not feel that well.  I asked the new nurse if I can lay down so I don't fall off the table, and she helped me down, but also recommeded another position where i was more on my side.  I told her sure! she checked me again real quick, and i was still at 7 but he did move to station 0 (+2  is where  i want to be to push)  at this time (1:20) i got nervous and sent Jared a text to tell him he has 10 mins.

HERE is where it gets exciting!!!!!
As she moved me to this side position, I suddenly got a bad contraction cramp!!!!! i thought maybe we pulled the epi loose, so I asked the nurse to look because it suddenly HURTS BAD!!!!   She got a worried look, put be back on my back, and took a look down there.  Almost jumped out of her shoes "Oh Wow!!  Your complete!!!"  She then put my legs crossed, and told me not to move, or the baby is gonna fall out, and she raced out of the room!!!!
I call Jared (1:23) in a frantic to tell him to get back NOW!  Luckily he was already back in L&D and just walking to my room now so he was by my side in a minute.  My OB was racing to the hospital now, and he came into my room at about 1:35 pm.  He and Chivon gowned up, and got into position.
As soon as my next contraction hit, Davis instructed me to push, and Paxton was born before my contraction ended!!!!

Paxton was placed straight onto my..... gown (it was supposed to be my chest, but things happened so fast, we didnt have a chance to unbutton my gown to get skin to skin) And he was crying, and I was crying, and it was amazing!!!!!  I was able to hold him and look at him while the doctor delivered my placenta, and Jared was able to cut the cord again.

It was so crazy how fast everything happened at the end, but it was such an amazing experience, and having my perfect little man here with us now, makes everything that I had to endure in the last 9 months worth it!!!!   He is amazing, and I love him so much!!!

Here are some more hospital pics of Paxton!
